φάσγανον

φάσγανον, τό (statt σφάγανον, von σφάζω), – 1) ein schneidendes Werkzeug, Messer, Schwert, Dolch; öfters bei Hom., bei dem es immer das große Schlachtschwert zu sein scheint, von ἄορ u. ξίφος nicht verschieden, vgl. Od. 11, 24. 48. 82, u. in der Scheide an einem Bande, τελαμών getragen wird, Il. 23, 824; φάσγανον τινάσσων γυμνὸν κολεοῦ Pind. N. 1, 52; ϑήγουσα φωτὶ φάσγανον Aesch. Ag. 1235; Soph. öfter, u. Eur., wie sp. D., selten in Prosa. – 2) eine Pflanze mit schwertförmigen Blättern, Schwertel, Schwertlilie, Theophr. u. Nic.
