σκάφιον, τό, dim. von σκάφη, σκάφος (nicht σκαφίον zu accentuiren); – 1) kleine Wanne, kleiner Trog, kleines Gefäß, Schälchen, Näpfchen; Theophr. u. A.; vgl. Ar. σκάφιον Ξένυλλ' ᾔτησεν· οὐ γὰρ ἦν ἀμίς, Thesm. 633, wie bei Iuvenal 6, 262 scaphium ein nachenförmiger Nachttopf für Weiber ist; ein Becher, Ath. IV, 142 d XI, 475 c. – Eine Art Brennspiegel, mit welchem die Vestalinnen das Feuer anzündeten, Plut. Num. 9; – eine Wurfschaufel, πτύον, Schol. Ar. Av. 806. – 2) eine besondere Art, die Haare zu scheeren, wenn man bloß auf dem Wirbel einen Haarschopf stehen ließ und ringsherum Alles kahl wegschor, κουρᾶς γένος, το ἐν χρῷ, Schol. Ar. Av. 806, wo steht κοψίχῳ γε σκάφιον ἀποτετιλμένῳ; vgl. Thesm. 838, αὐτὴν καϑῆσϑαι σκάφιον ἀποκεκαρμένην, wo der Schol. es für eine Art κουρᾶς δουλικῆς erkl.; Harpocr. führt auch aus Ar. Γῆρας diese Bdtg an; vgl. noch Schol. Luc. Lexiph. 5, wo οὐ κηπίον, ἀλλὰ σκάφιον ἐκεκάρμην steht. – Es wird aber auch für den Wirbel oder den ganzen obern Schädel selbst gebraucht; Poll. 2, 80 sagt, es stehe = κεφαλή bei Ar. – 3) wie σκαφίδιον, ein kleines Grabscheit od. eine kleine Hacke, bes. ein Werkzeug der Athleten zur Uebung im Graben, Plut. Arat. 3; nach Schol. Theocr. 4, 10 = dem attischen ἄμη.
